If we want marijuana laws to change, we have to start forcing politicians to make their official stance towards both medical and non marijuana law reform. With medical marijuana laws either already passed or being considered in over half the states in the U.S., this issue is no longer one that can be ignored. Politicians that don’t support marijuana law reform or, at the least, oppose it will not be getting my vote. We here at THE Weed Blog will be focusing our efforts in the coming months towards the many candidates and various initiatives and measures you will be seeing in the 2010 election cycle.
Since, until recently, the issue of marijuana was considered “taboo,” it was an easy topic for politicians to avoid. Supporting marijuana law reform was political suicide. The times have changed, however many of our representatives continue to dance around the issue, some even refusing to answer questions on the topic altogether. We at THE Weed Blog are going to start demanding answers to these important questions and making their views public to our thousands of daily readers. If you are an ignorant politician that refuses to accept the basic reality that our current laws are garbage, you WILL be held accountable.
We are not expecting everyone to support full legalization. We understand not everyone is ready for that. We do have three minimum expectations:
1. Do not go against the will of the people you represent. If your constituency voted to legalize medical marijuana or votes to legalize marijuana, DO NOT attempt to overturn these laws. This should be common sense.
2. Do not continue to spout the same anti-marijuana propaganda the government has been spewing for generations. The war on drugs is a failure and anyone with half a brain should recognize marijuana prohibition is not working either.
3. Do not dodge questions relating to marijuana law reform. We can respect the fact that not everyone agrees with us, but we don’t respect someone afraid to say anything at all. We will listen to anyone and I challenge anyone to convince us marijuana prohibition is working.
We have been contacting the candidates in many state and local races and plan on leveraging our influence to force them to pick a side. We will be publishing our results on the website to help our viewers decide who deserves their support. If you have a particular politician you would like us to target, feel free to contact us at either [email protected] or [email protected] and we will do what we can to help.
If you want to earn a full endorsement from THE Weed Blog, we would like to see some you make some effort towards marijuana reform. Feel free to contact us regarding ways we can help you make you support known!
