Liberate Cannabis
A rally to bring together the political left and right into one room to mitigate, moderate, and normalize marihuana in today’s society. With a list of lawyers, politicians, activists, and student speakers it will be a night filled with fun times, food, and music!
WHAT:
John Targowski, a local activist, criminal defense attorney, and event sponsor, is scheduled to start off speaking on how the 4th, 6th, and 8th amendments relate to the average recreational marihuana user. Daniel Corse, the NORML Kalamazoo Chapter President, will give a talk on what NORML does locally, and how audience members can get involved with the Kalamazoo NORML chapter. Ken Beyer is with the Michigan Testing Authority and a Medical Marihuana Advocate and will attest to the medical benefits of cannabis.
A faux debate of sorts will follow, with supporters for and against legalizing marihuana taking turns presenting their position directly to the audience, without addressing each other. Phil Stinchcomb, Kalamazoo County Commissioner from Portage, MI, and Bill Beck, President of the VanKal Tea Party, have committed to speaking against it, Chadwick Dillon, President of the College Republicans at WMU has been invited to speak against it. Kevin Spitler of The MedJoint Community Compassion Center and event sponsor, will be speaking in favor of it, Logan Fleckenstein member of the College Libertarians at WMU will speak in favor of legalizing recreational marihuana, while Charmie Gholson owner of The Midwest Cultivator will speak in favor of it as well.
Mike Callton, State Representative from House District 87, will speak on House Bill 5580 and what it takes to get a bill written, passed in the house and senate, and signed into law. After the faux debate and Representative Callton’s presentation, will be our keynote speaker Matthew Abel; the head of the Cannabis Counsel, attorney from Detroit, Michigan, and the President of NORML in Michigan.
