Hudspeth County Attorney Kit Bramblett has come up with a novel way to punish famed country singer and marijuana legalisation advocate Willie Nelson.
Nelson was arrested last November after police officers smelt dagga from within his tour bus as it entered Hudspeth County, Texas.
Six ounces of the holy herb were confiscated from the bus and Nelson, who claimed the marijuana as his, had to post a $2, 500 bail before being let on his way.
He had just returned from Mexico.
Mr Bramblett told the press : “I’m gonna let him plead, pay a small fine and he’s gotta sing “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” with his guitar right there in the courtroom.
“You bet your a** I ain’t gonna be mean to Willie Nelson”.
He later joked : “Between me and the sheriff, we threw out enough of it or smoked enough so that there’s only three ounces, which is within my jurisdiction”.
County Judge Becky Walker’s has Nelson called to her desk when the case file reached her.
Nelson has been in trouble with the law over his love for marijuana before and was again arrested in January this year with members of his band in North Carolina.
